Lexy & K-Paul | Vita

The history of Alexander Gerlach and Kai Paul is a pleasant journey through the club culture of Germany, especially of Berlin. It is the place where party people meet, form alliances and try experiments.

In 1997, Alexander Gerlach moves from his hometown Dresden to Berlin to pursue his designing ambitions. By the way, he begins to work as a DJ – Lexy – and soon establishes himself as one precursor of the so-called „BerlinTechno-Lectro“-sounds. Only 21 years old, he easily ranks among the scene's bigwigs and can be considered as belonging to Germany's techno elite.
1997 is exactly the year the Love Parade reached the one million visitors mark for the first time. It is a golden period for techno with all the premium clubs like “Tresor” and “E-Werk”. And Lexy right in the middle.

By contrast, Kai Paul was born and raised in East Berlin's borough Hohenschoenhausen. After getting to know the band members of Element Of Crime, he benefits from the opportunity to experiment in the studio. By and by, he evolved to a high-quality producer with his enthusiasm towards recording, his urge to test new things and his love to unearth the unexpected in the studio. Until then, Kai Paul had been a keyboard player in a Berliner Synthypop band, with which he was awarded the MDR TV `Junior newcomer´ prize in the category “Best junior newcomer band” in 1999.

Lexy and K-Paul's first mutual track titled “Do you like disco?” was licensed for the Mayday compilation “Soundtropolis” in 1999 and was released on Vinyl. Impelled by this initial success, the young team decided to continue sprinkling their creative dust and infecting the masses with their hypnotic sound. Thus, in spring of 1999 the track “The greatest DJ” was released and nominated as the Loveparade’s hymn. DJ Icons such as Westbam played the new track in front of hundreds and thousands people at the closing speech of the Berlin Loveparade. Soon the record was a global hit, beside Germany especially in South America and Asia.
The couple's next single was the hymn for “Electric Kingdom” with which they again catapulted themselves into the charts. In the following tour they headlined alongside Westbam and Mr .X and Mr.Y.
Springtime of 2000 proved to be the youngsters' ultimate breakthrough. Their follow up single “Freak” became an instant Love Parade hit, celebrating the new team as the newfound heroes of the Berlin Love Parade. With the shooting of the music video, the freaks launched a newfound fad in the German Music scene and the single conquered the charts at position 20.
The outcome of countless sleepless nights in the studio and their success came to a peak in 2001. Lexy and K-Paul were honoured with the Echo Award 2001 in the category “National Dance Newcomers” and nominated for the Austrian Music Award Amadeus in the category “Best Dance Act”.
The hit single “You’re The One” (2001) demonstrated their unique ability to continuously produce high standard dance music. As a consequence, their debut album “Loud” was released (Low Spirit).
With the buzz of success came the inevitable need for a short break, and so the couple decided to concentrate more on their remixes and international DJ performances. Spreading their sound to far-off shores such as Canada, USA, Japan, Colombia and Europe. The highlights of their acts included The Mayday, Love Parade, Love Parade in Vienna, Electric Kingdom and Love Nation.
The year 2002 didn’t start with less success when Lexy & K-Paul landed in the German Charts at number 26 with their chart breaker “Let’s play”.
The music style, Lexy & K-Paul had been created and defined formatively, can be called Technolectro which means electric dance music of a higher level.
Whereas catchy dance floor hits with Lexy & K-Paul's trademark sounds were the main focus of the debut record „Loud“, there is more space for experiments on the record „East End Boys“. For example, head of the band Element of Crime ennobled with his voice the atmospheric track „Oder beides“
The live qualities of the two DJs are legendary. During the “Electric Kingdom”- tours Lexy and K-Paul established their reputation as two insane freaks on stage. In between they put on some music and play samples but it is more than obvious that top priority is to party all night long. Today, they entertain enthusiastic listeners and spectators in Miami and at the Mayday. In clubs and at rock festivals.
Lexy & K-Paul have plenty install for the future. After their boom of national success, the couple wants to devote themselves to the international scene. Tours across South America, North America and Asia are on their schedules.
